MK Dons Sweep Aside Cheltenham

Cheltenham 0-2 MK Dons:
A disappointing performance in Cheltenham’s last outing of pre-season, as early, second half goals from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Aaron Collins, give the away side a deserved 0-2 win.
The game started off in a positive manner for the Robins, with some excellent right sided play from Shaun McWilliams and Jordan Shipley, leading to a chance dropping at the feet of George Miller, which was rather disappointing, and easily thwarted by Craig MacGillivray.
Dons came close themselves from the resultant clearance, sending one just wide of Wyll Stanway’s post.
Stanway himself was impressive, with Dons putting the Robins box under siege, but being unable to find that key goal.
Despite their high-pressing and intense style seeming to shake the Robins through the half, Dons were unable to make anything of it before the whistle.
Not to fear through, as, practically with the first move of the half, Dons worked the ball into the box, where it found Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. Mendez-Laing made easy work of the practically open net, to put the away side a goal to the good.
Sufficient time to blink separated Dons’ goals as a stunning Aaron Collins strike from outside the area, flew past Wyll Stanway, and made Dons’ lead safe at 0-2.
The away side seemed to take their foot off the pedal soon after, making nine substitutions, all at once.
Despite this, Cheltenham were unable to make anything of it, with rather frightened and unimaginative play on the ball, leading to a disappointing showing.
Sopuruchukwu Obieri found himself in receipt of the best chance of the game late on, but one touch too many meant that his shot flew over the bar, under pressure.
The final whistle echoed around Whaddon Road and the limp performance wasn’t able to dampen the Whaddon Road spirit, and confidence in the team, ahead of the upcoming season.
